History:

Dowsing has been used for thousands of years.  Cave paintings dating back thousands of years appear to have a forked stick.  Ancient pictures of dowsing have also been found in Egyptian and Chinese artwork.  European miners used them in the 15th Century.  Eventually, dowsing became known by the church as the work of the devil, and therefore disappeared from public view.  Peasants needed dowsing to find their water source, and used it secretly.  This is why the Y-shaped stick was used; it could be broken from a bush and destroyed after use.  

Dowsing is an intuitional science (a combination of mental, emotional and intuitive faculties are focused), and can be learned.  True dowsing is an extension of one's natural feeling and intuitive perceptions.  With the aid of one's superconscious mind and a suitable device, you can find anything.
